City Publics The (Dis)enchantments of Urban Economics
Free Download City Publics: The (Dis)enchantments of Urban Economics By Sophie Watson
2006 | 208 Pages | ISBN: 0415312272 | PDF | 15 MB
Some cities have grown into mega cities and some into uncontrolled sprawl; others have seen their centres decline with populations moving to the suburbs. In such times, questions of the public realm and public space in cities warrant even greater attention than previously received. Concerned with the borders and boundaries, constraints and limits on accepting, acknowledging and celebrating difference in public, Sophie Watson, through ethnographic studies, interrogates how difference is negotiated and performed. Focusing on spaces where to outside observers tension is relatively absent or invisible, Watson also reveals how the boundaries between the public and private are being negotiated and redrawn, and how public and private spaces are mutually constitutive. Through her investigation of the more ordinary and less dramatic forms of encounter and contestation in the city, Watson is able to conceive an urban public realm and urban public space that is heterogeneous and potentially progressive. With numerous photographs and drawings City Publics not only throws new light on encounters with others in public space, but also destabilizes dominant, sometimes simplistic, universalized accounts and helps us re-imagine urban public space as a site of potentiality, difference, and enchanted encounters.

Navigating Socialist Encounters Moorings and (Dis)Entanglements between Africa and East Germany during the Cold War
Free Download Eric Burton, "Navigating Socialist Encounters: Moorings and (Dis)Entanglements between Africa and East Germany during the Cold War "
English | ISBN: 3110622319 | 2021 | 300 pages | EPUB | 1469 KB
This edited volume examines entanglements and disentanglements between Africa and East Germany during and after the Cold War from a global history perspective. Extending the view beyond political elites, it asks for the negotiated and plural character of socialism in these encounters and sheds light on migration, media, development, and solidarity through personal and institutional agency. With its distinctive focus on moorings and unmoorings, the volume shows how the encounters, albeit often brief, significantly influenced both African and East German histories.

E-BooksHEALING DIS-EASE IN THE MIND OF CHRIST

HEALING DIS-EASE IN THE MIND OF CHRIST
Free Download Maitreya Christos, "HEALING DIS-EASE IN THE MIND OF CHRIST"
English | 2018 | ISBN: 0473447231 | PDF | pages: 177 | 13.8 mb
HE WHO IS SICK is not fully in the Mind of Christ-for in Christ there is no sickness. A sick mind is a 'separated mind', which functions "separately from" the Mind of Christ. It is in this human form we are given the opportunity to rise above sickness, by "letting this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus." [Philippians 2:5]. Know the Mind of Christ casts out all sickness, which is why the prophet Isaiah says of Christ-"He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses." [Matthew 8:17]. Beloveds, sickness in the mind-body-spirit is a clear sign we have strayed from the Mind of Christ, even if we profess with our lips to follow Christ-somewhere in spirit we are not following His way. In this book we will review the spoken Word of Jesus Christ and the 217 snares of a separated mind that lead us into sickness. Here we are reminded to "Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction." [Psalm 103:2]

E-BooksThe (Dis)information Age The Persistence of Ignorance

The (Dis)information Age The Persistence of Ignorance
The (Dis)information Age: The Persistence of Ignorance By Shaheed Nick Mohammed
2012 | 206 Pages | ISBN: 1433115026 | PDF | 2 MB
The (Dis)information Age challenges prevailing notions about the impact of new information and media technologies. The widespread acceptance of ideas about the socially transformative power of these technologies demands a close and critical interrogation. The technologies of the information revolution, often perceived as harbingers of social transformation, may more appropriately be viewed as tools, capable of positive and negative uses. This book encourages a more rational and even skeptical approach to the claims of the information revolution and demonstrates that, despite a wealth of information, ignorance persists and even thrives. As the volume of information available to us increases, our ability to process and evaluate that information diminishes, rendering us, at times, less informed. Despite the assumed globalization potential of new information technologies, users of global media such as the World Wide Web and Facebook tend to cluster locally around their own communities of interest and even around traditional communities of geography, nationalism, and heritage. Thus new media technologies may contribute to ignorance about various «others» and, in this and many other ways, contribute to the persistence of ignorance.

Carnival has been described as one of the foundational elements of European culture, bearing an emblematic and iconic status as the festive phenomenon par excellence. Its origins are partly obscure, but its stratified and complex history, rich symbolic diversity, and sundry social configurations make it an exceptional object of cultural analysis.

E-BooksThe European Union at an Inflection Point (Dis)integrating or the New Normal

The European Union at an Inflection Point (Dis)integrating or the New Normal
Alasdair Young, "The European Union at an Inflection Point: (Dis)integrating or the New Normal? "
English | ISBN: 1138708216 | 2017 | 154 pages | EPUB | 2 MB
The cutting-edge contributions to this book analyse different facets of the European Union (EU): closer integration among the member states, policymaking within a 'normal' political system, and the implications of European integration for its member states. This book also considers whether the challenges currently confronting the EU - the lingering Eurozone debt crises, the migrant/refugee crisis, the British decision to leave the EU, and terrorist attacks in Belgium, France and Germany - mark an inflection point for the Union and for the study of the EU. For the first time, 'less Europe', rather than closer integration, has emerged as a serious option in response to crisis. This possibility reignites questions of (dis)integration and calls into question the assumption of the EU as a 'normal' political system. This book was originally published as a special issue of the
