2013 | 160 Pages | ISBN: 1841023337 | EPUB | 1 MB
Never previously seen reports and plans marked restricted and classified have been sourced from Britannia Royal Naval College's Archive. These documents have been published in an accessible format, with specially commissioned commentary by expert military historians, forming an important source in understanding the critical naval actions of the period. On 7 December 1941 at Pearl Harbor, the Imperial Japanese Navy delivered a stunning lesson in the effectiveness of carrier aircraft against capital ships. The crippling of the US Pacific Fleet gave the Imperial Japanese Navy almost free rein in that theatre of operations until the turning point - the Battles of the Coral Sea and Midway (1942). The outcome was the first decisive naval victory for the United States Navy with big-gun battleships further eclipsed by carrier aviation. Much of the action in the Pacific became legendary, as the British and American public viewed the newsreels of attacks at Pearl Harbor and the fall of Hong Kong, the Philippines and Singapore. At Midway, Commander Joseph Rochefort, USN, and his team cracked a Japanese code, which revealed Admiral Yamato's plan of attack on Midway Island. Japanese losses were vast and many Japanese airmen who had carried out the attacks at Pearl Harbor would meet their end at the Battle of Midway. Turning the Tide details these key events of the Pacific War and how the Battles of the Coral Sea and Midway allowed the US to be able to counter the Japanese at Guadalcanal.

E-BooksThe Coral Battleground

The Coral Battleground
Free Download The Coral Battleground By Judith Wright
2014 | 205 Pages | ISBN: 1742199062 | PDF | 3 MB
Teaming with marine life and with more than 130,000 square miles of spectacular coral reefs, sand cays, and islands, the Great Barrier Reef is Australia's most precious marine possession. The Coral Battleground tells the story of a small group of dedicated conservationists in Queensland-John Büsst, Judith Wright, Len Webb, and others-who fought to save the Ellison Reef from coral-limestone mining and the Swain Reefs from oil exploration. First published in 1977, this book tells of how the group swelled to encompass scientists, trade unionists, and politicians throughout Australia, and led in 1976 to the establishment of a guardian body: the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority. A must read for all those who consider themselves environmental custodians, this book is the story of a group of activists who beat the odds to successfully campaign for Mother Nature.

The Caribbean Coral Reef A Record of an Ecosystem Under Threat
Free Download The Caribbean Coral Reef: A Record of an Ecosystem Under Threat
English | 2023 | ISBN: 1032414502 | 218 Pages | PDF (True) | 570 MB
This book is a visual tour of Caribbean coral reefs between 1968 and 1978. They are the world's second largest coral reef community and the most threatened. The Caribbean Coral Reef: A Record of an Ecosystem Under Threat offers a priceless historical record made by a photographer who set out to document the major reef species when those reefs were at their prime. Today, coral reefs are under threat as never before and, sadly, most of what is shown in the book's photographs is now gone forever. It is only by comparing the images in this book with what we see now that we are able to fully recognize what we have lost.
