Local Contextual Influences on Teaching Narrative Insights from ESL and EFL Professionals
Free Download Patrick Ng, "Local Contextual Influences on Teaching: Narrative Insights from ESL and EFL Professionals"
English | ISBN: 1443864056 | 2014 | 198 pages | PDF | 1000 KB
This volume is a collection of personal narratives and research findings by English language (ESL/EFL) teachers who found themselves, in one way or another, teaching in various contexts all over the world. The central theme throughout these narratives is how contextual factors played a role in their approach to language teaching in different ways. The contributors reflect on their practices and provide an engaging discussion about how they deal with curriculum and classroom organization issues within the local context. Readers can expect to learn and understand how ESL/EFL teachers in this volume exercise their agency in teaching in a language classroom. These teachers, through their own unique stories and research findings, reflect on how they responded to local contextual factors such as the learning culture, national and school policies, personal beliefs and attitudes towards pedagogy, the sociolinguistic context of teaching, the school culture, and the wider sociopolitical context in which learning and teaching takes place. Since the narrative approach has been placed center stage in teacher education as a method and an objective of inquiry, the contributors adopt the narrative form to reflect and discuss their instructional practice.

E-BooksA Contextual Reading of Ethiopian Crosses Through Form and Ritual Kaleidoscopes of Meaning

A Contextual Reading of Ethiopian Crosses Through Form and Ritual Kaleidoscopes of Meaning
Maria Evangelatou, "A Contextual Reading of Ethiopian Crosses Through Form and Ritual: Kaleidoscopes of Meaning"
English | 2018 | pages: 380 | ISBN: 1463205783 | PDF | 95,1 mb
Ethiopia is unique among Christian lands for the incomparable prominence of the cross in the life of its people and for the inexhaustible variety and intricacy of decorative patterns on cross-shaped objects of all kinds. Crosses of wondrous diversity and sophistication are extensively used in religious and magic rituals, as well as in the daily social interactions and personal experiences of people in a variety of contexts. This book explores the ways in which Ethiopian crosses reflect and shape a broad range of ideas, from religious beliefs to interrelated socio-political values, and from individual notions of identity and protection to cultural constructs of local and universal dimensions. Thus the cross of the Ethiopian tradition emerges as the sacred matrix that encompasses the life of the world in both its microcosmic and macrocosmic dimensions; and as the social and cultural nexus through which and with which people interact in order to shape and express personal and communal identities and hopes. The investigation includes textual and visual evidence, as well as aspects of Ethiopian history and cultural tradition, and highlights elements of both continuity and change. Special attention is given to religious rituals in which crosses guide the participants to internalize abstract ideas central to their culture, through sensorial experience and interaction. A main objective of this analysis is to contribute to an understanding of visual creations as interactive depositories and therefore also generators of ideas, with an influential role in identity formation, socio-cultural interactions and the construction of power relations.

E-BooksConceptual and Contextual Perspectives on the Modern Law of Treaties

Conceptual and Contextual Perspectives on the Modern Law of Treaties
Conceptual and Contextual Perspectives on the Modern Law of Treaties
English | 2018 | ISBN: 1107100526 | 1171 Pages | PDF (True) | 6.4 MB
In recent years there has been a flourishing body of work on the Law of Treaties, crucial for all fields within international law. However, scholarship on modern treaty law falls into two distinct strands which have not previously been effectively synthesized. One concerns the investigation of concepts which are fundamental to or inherent in the law of treaties generally - such as consent, object and purpose, breach of obligation and provisional application - while the other focuses upon the application of treaties and of treaty law in particular substantive (e.g. human rights, international humanitarian law, investment protection, environmental regulation) or institutional contexts (including the Security Council, the World Health Organization, the International Labour Organization and the World Trade Organization). This volume represents the culmination of a series of collaborative explorations by leading experts into the operation, development and effectiveness of the modern law of treaties, as viewed through these contrasting perspectives.

The Oxford Handbook of Contextual Approaches to Human Resource Management (Oxford Handbooks)
English | 2021 | ISBN: 0190861169 | 705 pages | True PDF EPUB | 11.08 MB
In recent years scholars and practitioners have increasingly recognized that human resource management (HRM) has paid insufficient attention to the impact of context. While research has been devoted to examining the impact of national context on HRM systems, this literature has been largely separate from that focused on other levels of context affecting organizational choices in HRM strategies, such as the impact of the organizational environment, industry sector, occupation or workforce characteristics. In addition, research has tended to consider elements of context in isolation rather than considering its impact at different levels.

E-BooksBusiness Under Crisis Volume I Contextual Transformations

Business Under Crisis Volume I Contextual Transformations
Business Under Crisis Volume I: Contextual Transformations by Demetris Vrontis
English | EPUB | 2022 | 291 Pages | ISBN : 3030765660 | 2.6 MB
This book examines businesses under crisis conditions through a composition of contextual accounts. The Editors argue that crises are transformative, evolutionary and even revolutionary in the development of organizations, industries and markets. Moreover, crises reform the context in which organizations operate, including customers and their behaviour. As such, they need to be viewed as conduits to change, accelerators of evolution and catalysts of innovation in organizations. Emphasising the importance of 'context' and its complexities, the book argues that for crisis, as a concept and notion, context is crucial to any understanding of the meaning that should or could be attached to it.
