This book explores multifaceted dimensions of economic crisis management including strategies and trends post-crisis. It examines the constraints and opportunities shaping the future of economics, social science and policy making, providing various economic models and paradigms. Featuring the best papers presented at the 2022 International Conference of Economic Scientific Research - Theoretical, Empirical and Practical Approaches (ESPERA), this book explores topics of highest interest such as energy crisis, inflation, fiscal and monetary policy, food security, safety and sustainability, the future of work, global financial systems, sovereign debt sustainability, digital currencies, supply chain disruptions, and cybersecurity, among others. Through the discussion of these topics, this book bridges the gap between theory and practice in economic crisis management and it is useful for scholars, researchers, academics, and policymakers.

The all-in-one stop for all things constraints. This recorded course will dive into understanding the purpose, construction, manipulation, application, and destruction of using constraints in the RBD context. Topics will cover both traditional and custom ways to create constraints to fit the needs of the scene, including building constraints from scratch to achieve full control to art direct behaviors in your simulations.

E-BooksUncertainty, Constraints, and Decision Making

Uncertainty, Constraints, and Decision Making

In the first approximation, decision making is nothing else but an optimization problem: We want to select the best alternative. This description, however, is not fully accurate: it implicitly assumes that we know the exact consequences of each decision, and that, once we have selected a decision, no constraints prevent us from implementing it. In reality, we usually know the consequences with some uncertainty, and there are also numerous constraints that needs to be taken into account. The presence of uncertainty and constraints makes decision making challenging. To resolve these challenges, we need to go beyond simple optimization, we also need to get a good understanding of how the corresponding systems and objects operate, a good understanding of why we observe what we observe - this will help us better predict what will be the consequences of different decisions. All these problems - in relation to different application areas - are the main focus of this book.

Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) has been a long-standing research problem in robotics. It describes the problem of a robot mapping an unknown environment, while simultaneously localizing in it with the help of the incomplete map. This book describes a technique called Switchable Constraints.Switchable Constraints help to increase the robustness of SLAM against data association errors and in particular against false positive loop closure detections. Such false positive loop closure detections can occur when the robot erroneously assumes it re-observed a landmark it has already mapped or when the appearance of the observed surroundings is very similar to the appearance of other places in the map. Ambiguous observations and appearances are very common in human-made environments such as office floors or suburban streets, making robustness against spurious observations a key challenge in SLAM. The book summarizes the foundations of factor graph-based SLAM techniques. It explains the problem of data association errors before introducing the novel idea of Switchable Constraints. We present a mathematical derivation and probabilistic interpretation of Switchable Constraints along with evaluations on different datasets. The book shows that Switchable Constraints are applicable beyond SLAM problems and demonstrates the efficacy of this technique to improve the quality of satellite-based localization in urban environments, where multipath and non-line-of-sight situations are common error sources.

This book examines the recent trend of extending data dependencies to adapt to rich data types in order to address variety and veracity issues in big data. Readers will be guided through the full range of rich data types where data dependencies have been successfully applied, including categorical data with equality relationships, heterogeneous data with similarity relationships, numerical data with order relationships, sequential data with timestamps, and graph data with complicated structures. The text will also discuss interesting constraints on ordering or similarity relationships contained in novel classes of data dependencies in addition to those in equality relationships, e.g., considered in functional dependencies (FDs). In addition to exploring the concepts of these data dependency notations, the book investigates the extension relationships between data dependencies, such as conditional functional dependencies (CFDs) that extend conventional functional dependencies (FDs). This forms in the book a family tree of extensions, mostly rooted in FDs, that help illuminate the expressive power of various data dependencies. Moreover, the book points to work on the discovery of dependencies from data, since data dependencies are often unlikely to be manually specified in a traditional way, given the huge volume and high variety in big data. It further outlines the applications of the extended data dependencies, in particular in data quality practice. Altogether, this book provides a comprehensive guide for readers to select proper data dependencies for their applications that have sufficient expressive power and reasonable discovery cost. Finally, the book concludes with several directions of future studies on emerging data.
