Heavy Metal Toxicity Environmental Concerns, Remediation and Opportunities
Free Download Heavy Metal Toxicity: Environmental Concerns, Remediation and Opportunities
English | 2023 | ISBN: 9819903963 | 763 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 54 MB
This contributed volume covers a comprehensive account of the sources, toxic biological as well as environmental impacts, and possible remediation strategies for contamination by heavy metals. In biological systems, toxic metals affect the integrity of cellular organelles and act as carcinogens causing chromosomal aberrations or as systemic toxicants leading to cardiovascular, neurobehavioral, and immunological disorders. In plants, they interfere with photosynthesis, fertility, metabolite, and chlorophyll synthesis. Toxicity induced by heavy metals involves mechanistic approaches that need to be understood properly. They cannot be degraded by biological or chemical means and thus can only be converted to less harmful forms. The conventional detection methods include biosensors, voltammetry, atomic absorption spectrometry, and inductively coupled plasma with atomic emission spectrometry. All such strategies for metal detection and mitigation strategies are covered in this title under one section.

E-BooksEternal light and earthly concerns Belief and the shaping of medieval society

Eternal light and earthly concerns Belief and the shaping of medieval society
Paul Fouracre, "Eternal light and earthly concerns: Belief and the shaping of medieval society "
English | ISBN: 1784993018 | 2021 | 288 pages | EPUB | 853 KB
In early Christianity it was established that every church should have a light burning on the altar at all times. In this unique study, Eternal light and earthly concerns, looks at the material and social consequences of maintaining these 'eternal' lights. It investigates how the cost of lighting was met across western Europe throughout the whole of the Middle Ages, revealing the social organisation that was built up around maintaining the lights in the belief that burning them reduced the time spent in Purgatory. When that belief collapsed in the Reformation the eternal lights were summarily extinguished. The history of the lights thus offers not only a new account of change in medieval Europe, but also a sustained examination of the relationship between materiality and belief.

Poetry of the New Woman Public Concerns, Private Matters
Poetry of the New Woman: Public Concerns, Private Matters
English | 2023 | ISBN: 303119764X | 387 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 2 MB
The New Woman sought vast improvements in Victorian culture that would enlarge educational, professional, and domestic opportunities. Although New Women resist ready classification or appraisal as a monolithic body, they tended to share many of the same beliefs and objectives aimed at improving female conditions. While novels about the iconoclastic New Woman have garnered much interest in recent decades, poetry from the cultural and literary figure has received considerably less attention. Yet the very issues that propelled New Woman fiction are integral to the poetry of the fin de siècle. This book - the first in-depth account on the subject - enriches our knowledge of exceptionally gifted writers, including Mathilde Blind, M. E. Coleridge, Olive Custance, and Edith Nesbit. It focuses on their long-neglected British verse, analyzing its treatment of crucial matters on both the personal and public level to provide the attention the poetry so richly deserves.

A lightning-strike dispatch of hilarious, intimate, luminous essays from the brain (and voice!) of Emmy Award-nominated actress and writer Betty Gilpin. As a dear friend said after listening to this audiobook, it's "either a masterpiece, or it's.completely." and then she glazed over into a haunted stare. Listener? This audiobook is my opus and it is chaos. If you've ever felt like you were more, or at least weirder, than the world expected—welcome to All the Women in My Brain.

E-BooksThe Fifteenth Century XI Concerns and Preoccupations

The Fifteenth Century XI Concerns and Preoccupations
The Fifteenth Century XI: Concerns and Preoccupations By Linda Clark (ed.)
2012 | 172 Pages | ISBN: 1843837579 | PDF | 3 MB
The concerns of people over differing levels of fifteenth-century society are the focus of the essays contained in this volume. How would a queen in exile wish to be depicted on a medal, or a newly-crowned king deal with recalcitrant London merchants when their interests clashed with his policies? The logistics of an invasion of France present a challenge to the military advisers of another king, and by bringing fresh insights to the text a translator of Vegetius' 'De re militari' addresses the fears of rulers and ruled in a time of civil unrest. English supplicants to the papal curia require expert advice to navigate bureaucratic procedures at Rome; while Welsh students encounter other obstacles as they embark on careers in Church and state. Manuscript and printed versions of parliamentary statutes point to differing preferences on the part of government clerks and practising lawyers in their choice of language; while the papers of a professional estate manager from Norfolk reveal antiquarian interests and an affinity with William of Worcester.

Existential Concerns and Cognitive-Behavioral Procedures: An Integrative Approach to Mental Health
English | 2022 | ISBN: 3031069315 | 561 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 4 MB
Clients enter therapy grappling with a range of difficulties. They don't speak in diagnostic terms, but instead focus on the everyday problems that confront them. Their struggles may include isolation, loneliness, anxiety, guilt and regret, and problems making decisions in a world that offers seemingly endless choice. In contrast, the cognitive-behavior therapist is trained in the language of conditioning and extinction, avoidance and safety behaviors, behavioral activation and attentional biases. This book explores the ideas of the existentialist philosophers as a bridge between the suffering client and technically trained clinician. The volume is not a rejection of cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), but seeks to place CBT in the broader context of the most popular philosophic tradition of the 19th and 20th centuries.

E-BooksEcocritical Concerns and the Australian Continent

Ecocritical Concerns and the Australian Continent
Beate Neumeier, "Ecocritical Concerns and the Australian Continent "
English | ISBN: 1498564011 | 2019 | 310 pages | PDF | 3 MB
Ecocritical Concerns and the Australian Continent investigates literary, historical, anthropological, and linguistic perspectives in connection with activist engagements. The necessary cross-fertilization between these different perspectives throughout this volume emerges in the resonances between essays exploring recurring concerns ranging from biodiversity and preservation policies to the devastating effects of the mining industries, to present concerns and futuristic visions of the effects of climate change. Of central concern in all of these contexts is the impact of settler colonialism and an increasing turn to indigenous knowledge systems. A number of chapters engage with questions of ecological imperialism in relation to specific sociohistorical moments and effects, probing early colonial encounters between settlers and indigenous people, or rereading specific forms of colonial literature. Other essays take issue with past and present constructions of indigeneity in different contexts, as well as with indigenous resistance against such ascriptions, while the importance of an understanding of indigenous notions of "care for country" is taken up from a variety of different disciplinary angles in terms of interconnectedness, anchoredness, living country, and living heritage.
