The Hollow Colossus
The Hollow Colossus By Charles Andrews
2015 | 209 Pages | ISBN: 0967990556 | PDF | 52 MB
PrefaceWorking people enjoyed relative prosperity in the decades after World War Two, despite significant exceptions. Many a senior remembers good times then, but they have turned into insecurity and degraded employment today. This essay studies why.The investigation looks into changes in the nature of work, the inevitability of economic slumps, and the subjugation of technological advance to the dictate of profit. The facts are readily observed, and the data are routine tallies. The challenge is to comprehend the historical path of capitalist accumulation and the barrier it hit. We find that two frequent themes of economic commentary, financialization and globalization, are superficial jumbles of description; the phenomena are effects more than causes. Our explanatory model uses a few propositions from the labor theory of value, but since they do not upset honest common sense, an exposition of the theory is unnecessary here.Study foretells a different future, but only action makes it real. The principles of a new order call out: this we must do, we can do it, and it will be glorious.

The quantum computer is no longer the stuff of science fiction. Pioneering physicists are on the brink of unlocking a new quantum universe which provides a better representation of reality than our everyday experiences and common sense ever could. The birth of quantum computers - which, like Schrödinger's famous "dead and alive" cat, rely on entities like electrons, photons, or atoms existing in two states at the same time - is set to turn the computing world on its head.

Cooperating with the Colossus: A Social and Political History of US Military Bases in World War II Latin America by Rebecca Herman
English | September 23, 2022 | ISBN: 0197531865, 0197531873 | True EPUB/PDF | 308 pages | 11/20.2 MB
During the Second World War, the United States built over two hundred defense installations on sovereign soil in Latin America in the name of cooperation in hemisphere defense. Predictably, it proved to be a fraught affair. Despite widespread acclaim for Pan-American unity with the Allied cause, defense construction incited local conflicts that belied the wartime rhetoric of fraternity and equality.

E-BooksTom Morris of St. Andrews The Colossus of Golf 1821-1908

Tom Morris of St. Andrews The Colossus of Golf 1821-1908
David Malcolm, Peter Crabtree, "Tom Morris of St. Andrews: The Colossus of Golf 1821-1908"
English | 2010 | ISBN: 1841588180 | EPUB | pages: 352 | 0.6 mb
This is the first biography in over 100 years of the great Tom Morris of St Andrews, who presided over one of the most illustrious periods in the history of golf, who - more than anyone before or since in any game - stamped his individual character upon his sport and how, in large measure, made golf what it is today. Born in a humble weaver's cottage in St Andrews in 1821, by the time of his death in 1908, he had become a figure of international renown. When he was buried with all the pomp and ceremony befitting an eminent Victorian, newspapers around the world reported his funeral, followed by his internment below the effigy of his son, Tommy, amidst the ruins of St Andrews Cathedral. In the course of his long life, he witnessed huge social and scientific changes in the world, none more so than in the game of golf that he had, in many respects, overseen and directed. By the time of his death, the game had expanded to become the most popular and geographically widespread of all sports and the essential recreational pursuit of gentlemen. Tom Morris was a sporting hero in an age of heroes, as well as golf's first iconic figure.
